Warning: started using a $3 drain snake instead of calling a plumber for every clog, and I feel ridiculous about the money I used to spend
My kitchen sink at the house in Akron has clogged up about every 4 months for the past 3 years, and I always just called a plumber because I figured a real fix needed real tools. Last time he came out, he charged me $180 to run a hand snake down the p-trap for 10 minutes, and I watched him do it the whole time. On my next trip to the hardware store I picked up a 25 foot drum auger for $32 and figured worst case I was out a few bucks. It took me about 20 minutes the first time because I was scared of scratching the pipes, but now I can clear the same clog in 5. I have done it 3 times since April and have not paid a plumber once. Does anyone else here have a tool like this where you wish you had just bought it sooner instead of paying someone else?
