My aunt's 'freeze everything' advice backfired on canned beans

My aunt in Tampa swore I could freeze leftover canned beans straight in the tin to save money. I tried it with a 99 cent can of black beans last month, and the tin bulged and leaked all over my freezer shelf. I mean, she meant well, but now I just portion them into quart bags and it actually works. Anybody else get handed a budget tip that wrecked your kitchen?
