Hostels beat hotels even for business trips, here's my proof from Chicago

I booked a private room at a hostel near the Loop for $48 a night during a conference, and the free breakfast and kitchen access cut my daily food costs to $11. Has anyone else tried this on work trips, or is the shared bathroom a dealbreaker for most people?
