My cheap backpack zipper gave out in the middle of a Bangkok downpour

I was walking from the Skytrain to my hostel last Tuesday when the main zipper on my backpack just split open. I bought it for $25 before the trip thinking it would hold up, but the rain was really heavy. All my stuff got soaked, including my phone and my only pair of dry socks. I had to stuff everything into a plastic bag from a 7-Eleven and carry it like that for six blocks. It totally messed up my plan to explore that night because I had to lay everything out to dry. Has anyone found a good, cheap backpack brand that can actually handle bad weather? I need a real fix before my next trip.

Oh man, the plastic bag from 7-Eleven is the universal fix lol. I had a cheap umbrella totally flip inside out in that Bangkok rain once, it was like a scene from a movie.

Watched my buddy's backpack strap snap right off in Hanoi during a monsoon. He had to tie it back together with a hair tie from his sister's bag. What did you end up doing with your wet phone?

That hair tie fix is genius, like gibson.mark's 7-Eleven bag move.
