Tried sleeping in my car at a rest stop near Bozeman to save $85 and a cop knocked on my window at 3am
Last month I drove from Spokane to Yellowstone and thought I was being so smart by skipping the motels and just sleeping at a rest stop outside Bozeman. I packed a pillow, a blanket, and figured I'd save around $85 that night. Around 3am a cop taps on my glass and tells me overnight parking is not allowed there, so I had to drive 20 more miles to a truck stop with actual showers. The shower cost $12 but honestly it was worth every penny after 4 hours of trying to sleep sitting up. I still saved money on the trip, just not the way I planned. Does anyone have a go-to list of chain stores or rest areas that actually allow overnight car camping?
