Showerthought: My budget game night snack hack got some weird looks

I hosted a board game night and wanted to keep costs low, so I made popcorn from kernels instead of buying bags. My friend saw me popping it in a pot on the stove and thought I was nuts. It turned out great and cost pennies, but the whole group joked about my 'old school' methods. We still had a blast and I saved over twenty bucks. What's your go-to cheap trick for group hangs that always raises eyebrows?

Remember my friend who brought a giant pot of homemade soup to a potluck instead of buying chips? Everyone thought he was crazy until they tasted it and realized he fed ten people for under five bucks. Now we all ask him to bring that soup every time.

That "thought he was crazy" part is the whole problem. People are so used to bringing packaged stuff that real food seems weird. Homemade soup actually shows you care, and it feeds people way better than a bag of chips. Your friend had the right idea all along.

Reminds me of when @jordan_miller brought his famous chili to the station, it was a total game changer.
