A customer asked me to 'trim the fat' and meant something else entirely
Last Saturday this guy comes up to my counter at the shop in Tulsa and hands me a pork shoulder, says "trim the fat" with this weird grin. I start cutting and he shouts "no, the fat on your apron strap!" Turns out he was joking about my belly. We both laughed but I still charged him for the pork. Anyone else had customers cross the line with jokes at the counter?

Honestly that's hilarious but also kinda rude, ngl. I had a guy at my counter in Tulsa too, he pointed at my tattoo and goes "that gonna be on the menu someday?" and I just stared at him while wrapping his brisket. We both knew he meant my arm, not the meat, so I deadpanned "only if we start serving leather," and he tipped extra after that. Some folks just can't help themselves, but charging him full price was the right call, keep that energy.

Ha, that brisket line is GOLD. I had a similar thing happen at a diner up in Colorado once. This old timer kept staring at my scar on my forearm while I poured his coffee, then finally goes "That from a fight or a frying pan?" I just looked at him and said "Neither, I lost a thumb war with a deli slicer," and he laughed so hard he nearly choked on his eggs. But yeah, some people think a tattoo or a scar is an open invitation to make it their whole personality for the next five minutes. Charging him full price wasn't just about money, it was about setting the boundary that my arm isn't a conversation piece for his amusement. You handled that way better than I would have, I probably would've wrapped his brisket in a map of Oklahoma and called it a day.
