Overheard a kid at the meat counter ask where the 'chicken steaks' were
Made me realize how few young people actually know where their food comes from anymore. Got me thinking - do you guys see the trade dying out or is it just my corner of Ohio?

So my friend Jess was helping out at her church's community garden last summer, this 13 year old boy asked her if potatoes grow on trees because that's where he saw them in a video game. She said they come from the ground like carrots and he looked at her like she was making it up. I don't think the trade is dying out exactly, more like the everyday knowledge of where stuff comes from is just gone for a lot of younger people. It makes me wonder what else they think just appears in packages at the store.

That kid thinking potatoes grow on trees is wild but honestly I blame the parents not the video game. My buddy's 11 year old nephew thought milk just came from the store in jugs and was shocked to find out cows are involved at all. Did your friend actually explain the whole potato plant thing to him or just leave it at "they come from the ground"? Because kids that age need the whole picture or they'll just think she's lying. Im curious what other basic stuff people in their 20s or younger have been surprised about in real life.
