Found out my little free library has been restocked 200 times by strangers and I almost cried at the mailbox
I keep a little free library on the corner of my street in Akron and I honestly figured it was mostly me filling it. Last Saturday I ran into the lady who lives two houses down and she mentioned she drops off books almost weekly, so I got curious and started a tally sheet taped inside the door. In 6 months, 200 books have come and gone that I never put there. Someone left a whole stack of old paperback mysteries with a note that just said "enjoy, from the guy on Gilbert St." There's a cookbook in there right now with handwritten notes in the margins from at least 3 different people. I always thought free stuff just disappears, but this thing keeps refilling itself like magic. If you run a little free library or a pantry box, do you keep any kind of count? I want to know if 200 is normal or if my neighbors are just extra generous.
Oh man this reminds me of the time I put a cooler full of ice and waters at the end of my driveway on a hot day with a sign that said "take one." I figured it would be empty in an hour and that would be that. Two days later there were three more coolers sitting there, and somebody had added a case of gatorade and a bag of ice. People really do show up when you give them something to show up for.
