Rant: Guy at the swap table swore a dead laptop would get snatched in an hour, took me 3 weeks
Last month at the Riverside swap meet, a guy named Dave watched me set out an old Dell laptop with a cracked screen. He shook his head and told me to put a sign on it that said "charger included" or nobody would touch it. I wrote "works fine, just slow" on a sticky note instead because I thought he was full of it. That thing sat there through 3 straight Saturdays while people walked right past it. I finally taped his exact words on it last weekend and a college kid grabbed it in 20 minutes. So what else am I getting wrong about how people pick through free stuff?
Did the guy maybe just get lucky with that college kid though? I've had stuff sit for weeks even with a great sign, then some random person grabs it five minutes before I pack up and it has nothing to do with the wording. Still, your story makes me wonder how many decent things I've tossed because I figured nobody would want them as-is.
