A finish guy in Toledo called my cabinet doors "too flat" and it bugged me for a week until I checked my sander
I was building a set of oak upper doors last month and the finish guy I hire out in Toledo ran his hand over one and said they felt "too flat" before he even sprayed them. I didn't get it at first, I thought he was just being picky about my work. Then I pulled the paper off my random orbit and saw I'd been skipping grits, jumping from 80 straight to 220 for who knows how long, so the wood never got a real chance to level out. Rented a straight edge and a light and the low spots showed right up, maybe 1/16 inch dip in the middle of two doors. Anyone else find out later they'd been rushing their grit steps the whole time?
