Was skeptical about programmatic display for local biz... then saw the numbers from a dry cleaner in Omaha

Honestly, "shook" about a dry cleaner's ads hitting different than my morning coffee.

Smart thermostat vs basic programmable was a $200 lesson I shoulda learned sooner

You been through the whole smart thermostat circus too? It's almost like these companies overthink what's supposed to be a simple switch. I bet half the people with smart ones just end up using the manual override all day anyway.

Three years ago my neighbor hired a big downtown law firm for a simple property line dispute and ended up paying them $8,000 before they even talked to the other side.

Yeah I was actually just reading about this the other day in some legal blog. The writer was saying that big firms kind of have this setup where they need to bill you for everything, every little email and phone call gets logged, and it adds up fast. Meanwhile the solo guys, they're just trying to get the job done and move on, not pad the bill. I had a buddy who went with a big name firm for a contract issue and they charged him for a paralegal to read the emails he sent them. That's just crazy. It's like people think if you pay more you get better results but sometimes the local guy who actually talks to you like a person can do just as good a job for way less. The blog even said most property line stuff is more about common sense than complex law anyway. So yeah, I think it's mostly about people being scared and thinking a big name means safety, but it doesn't always work out that way.

PSA: I hit 1,000 days without buying a single paper towel

Oh come on, not everyone needs to go full eco-warrior over a single change. I swapped to a reusable water bottle last year and it didn't magically make me notice any other waste. I still buy individually wrapped snacks and use paper towels like they're going out of style. The whole "one swap opens your eyes" thing feels more like guilt-tripping than reality for most people.

My neighbor Frank showed me his trick for a $4 dinner after I complained about grocery prices.

Ha, I know exactly what you mean! That watery soup is the worst. Tomatoes alone just don't have that thick, rich texture you need for chili. You end up throwing in half a bag of cornmeal or something just to soak up the juice. I'd rather just start with paste and add water than the other way around. Makes you wonder why they even sell those plain cans sometimes.
