Am I the only cabinetmaker who learned everything from online tutorials?

Everyone says you need an apprenticeship to learn cabinetmaking. I disagree. I learned from online videos and books. Set up shop in my garage. Messed up early projects but learned from each mistake. Now I do custom jobs with happy clients. A mentor might help, but self-teaching sticks with you. The focus on old-school training limits new folks.

Honestly, I taught myself woodworking from online videos and it stuck. My early projects were disasters, but each screw-up taught me something. Now I handle custom jobs without a second thought.

Got my first attempt at a birdhouse looking like abstract art, @paule53. Pretty sure I invented new ways to mess up dovetails. Guess we all learn by ruining some wood first.

Why make such a big deal out of it?
