Showerthought: found out MDF dust is WAY more dangerous than I thought
I was reading a safety bulletin from OSHA last week and it said MDF dust contains urea formaldehyde levels that are 3 times higher than regular wood dust. I always just wore a basic dust mask when cutting MDF on my CNC, thinking it was no big deal. Now I'm looking at getting a proper respirator setup with P100 filters. Anyone else switch up their safety gear after learning something like this?

That line about "urea formaldehyde levels 3 times higher" really hit me too. But here's something I haven't seen anyone bring up: that dust settles EVERYWHERE and stays toxic for a LONG time after you stop cutting. I vacuum my whole shop after MDF jobs and still find that fine powder on surfaces weeks later. The dust gets kicked back into the air from just walking around or opening a door. So even with a good respirator while cutting, you're still breathing that stuff in later when you think it's safe.

Start vacuuming your shop and think you're done? Nah, you just gave the dust a little pep talk to get back airborne. I swear that MDF powder has a secret life plan to be a permanent houseguest. It's like one of those relatives who shows up with a suitcase and then never leaves, except this one is giving you lung cancer instead of bad holiday stories. So yeah, keep that respirator on for the next six months or until you move out, whichever comes first.
