Update: switched from butt hinges to Blum 170s on face frame cabs two years back and just did a service call on my own work
I put Blum 170 degree clip tops on all my face frame kitchens starting around 2021 after fighting euro hinges on 3/4 inch frames for years. Went back to a kitchen in Allentown last month that I built in 2022 and every door still swings dead level, no sag, no adjusting. Old shop I worked at used cheap hinges and we were back on jobs within a year fixing droopy doors. Anyone else made a hardware switch that ended up saving them callbacks later on?
The Blum 170s are clip top, not clip tops in the sense of the tool free clip mechanism, that is a different feature. The 170 number is the opening angle and those hinges still mount with two screws into the face frame plate. I ran the same setup on a maple face frame job in 2020 and the doors did hold up well, but the reason cheap hinges sag is usually the cup screws pulling out of particle board or the plate screws stripping, not the hinge brand itself. On solid wood frames with good screws, even mid grade hinges can go years without a callback.
