I've noticed a trend in my city where builders SKIMP on cable prep, leaving us to fix their MESS.

Did you see that news segment last week about the new condos on the west side? They showed all these pictures of wires just loosely strung through crawl spaces, not a single conduit in sight. It’s like they think drywall covers every mistake. My buddy moved into a place where the coax was just dangling behind the wall plate, totally unusable. We had to fish a whole new line. Builders get away with this because most people don’t check until after they move in. What’s the worst hidden wiring job you’ve had to fix?

Wondering if this is really that common though. Most new builds I've seen had the basics done right, even if it wasn't perfect. Honestly, the worst I usually find is just a messy data panel, not actual dangerous wiring. Maybe we just notice the bad ones more.

Tbh I see this everywhere now, not just with wiring. It's like the whole "out of sight, out of mind" thing is the standard way to build stuff. You get it with cheap appliances where the back panel hides a total mess, or even under the plastic trim in new cars. They do just enough to pass inspection and look okay on the surface, but the second you need to actually fix or change something, you find a nightmare.
