Saw a crew in Denver zip-tying coax to the main power line coming into a house

They were trying to get a clean run to the other side of the garage, but the homeowner's electrician had to cut it all out the next day. I'm pretty sure that's a code violation in every county, not to mention a huge safety risk. What's the worst shortcut you've seen another team take on a job?

Zip-tying to the main power line is just asking for trouble. That "huge safety risk" you mentioned is putting it lightly. What goes through someone's head to think that's an okay shortcut? I've seen some lazy work, but messing with the service drop is a whole other level of dangerous.

Exactly, @ninabutler. I read a report last year about a fire started exactly that way. Somebody thought a zip tie was fine for a temporary fix on a line to their garage. It's not just lazy, it's ignoring basic electrical code for a reason. That service drop carries enough power to kill you instantly if something goes wrong. Using the wrong materials shows a total lack of respect for the danger involved.

It's part of a bigger trend where people just stop seeing the risk in things they do every day. You get used to the danger, so a zip tie seems fine instead of doing it right. That's how really bad accidents end up happening.
