Am I the only one who blew $40 on a decoder box for channels that were already free?
Back in 1997 I bought one of those black boxes at a flea market in Akron thinking it would unlock the good movie channels, and all it did was make the guide menu look slightly different. My buddy laughed at me for a solid month because the same stuff came through fine once I re-aimed the antenna. Did anyone else get suckered by one of these at a flea market?

Sounds like your box was just a dud or a plain old descrambler that didn't do squat. Those Akron flea market ones were usually cheap clones that never really worked, so it wasn't you being dumb. Real deal boxes did pull in the premium stuff back then, but most of what got sold at tables was junk.
