My VCR ate a 1994 tape of my sister's dance recital, the machine is in the dumpster now

It was the last VCR in the house, the one I kept for nostalgia flexes, and it chewed up the tape right before I could digitize it, so I smashed it with a hammer in the driveway at 11 PM, has anyone else lost a prized recording to a finicky head cleaner or am I the only one who gambled with 30 year old magnetic tape?

ugh I literally did the same thing with my grandma's 8mm film projector, it ate the reel and I chucked the whole thing off the porch lmao. totally feel your pain, sometimes you just gotta let the tech die with the memory.
