The SSA clerk in Oakland told me my disability date was wrong and it took 5 months to fix
I had my SSDI approval back in March and thought the hard part was done. Then I got a letter in July saying my onset date was listed as June 2024 instead of October 2023, which changed my back pay by around $4,800. I called the national number twice and both times they just read the same date back to me. So I drove to the Oakland office on Broadway with my medical records in a folder, waited 2 hours, and the clerk actually looked at my file. She said the field office typo'd the year and put in a correction request right there. Got the adjusted award letter 6 weeks later with the full back pay. Has anyone else had an onset date get messed up, and did you have to go in person to fix it?

That bit about them just reading the same wrong date back to you on the phone hits home. I went through something close with my onset date being off by a few months and the phone people were zero help, they just see what's on the screen. Driving to the office and getting a real person to actually open the file is what finally moved it, and mine still took almost 2 months after that. Sucks you had to burn a whole afternoon plus a 2 hour wait just to get a typo fixed.
