A customer yelled at me for 'scratching' their lens... turns out they never cleaned off a smudge first

Some guy brought in a Canon 50mm f/1.4 claiming I scratched it during a cleaning, but when I checked under a bright light it was just a dried fingerprint. After that I started showing customers the gunk on their own lenses through my loupe before touching anything. Anyone else deal with folks blaming you for their own dirt?

and the audacity some people have is unreal lol. like bro your lens looks like a window after a rainstorm and you wanna blame me for it. i swear half this job is just managing peoples egos more than actually cleaning their stuff. honestly the loupe trick is genius though, gotta make them see the proof before they can argue. thats the only way to shut them up quick. people get so defensive when you point out theyre the ones who trashed their own gear.

Ever notice how people who baby their gear the least are always the loudest to complain?
