Old guy at the game store told me to sleeve my cards from day one. I ignored him for 2 years.

He was right. My copy of Dominion looks like a dog chewed it. Corners all bent up. Cards stick together. Now I spend every Saturday night re-sleeving a 10 year old collection. Should have just listened.

Hit $47 in materials for a full standing desk conversion and couldn't believe it

I was pricing out a sit/stand kit for my old particle board desk and figured I'd be dropping at least $200. Went with motorized legs off Amazon for $38 and a scrap piece of 3/4 plywood I had sitting in the garage. Cut it down to size, drilled some holes for the grommets, and it actually holds my dual monitor setup without sagging. The whole thing cost me $47 and a Saturday afternoon. Why are store bought standing desks so expensive when you can hack one together for pocket change? Anybody else surprised by how cheap a DIY version can be?

I just realized I was mounting control panels too close to attic vents

Had an attic sensor trigger a false alarm three times last month before I noticed the hot air from the vent was hitting the panel and messing with the humidity reading, has anyone else dealt with this specific placement issue?

Finally got the perfect homemade french fries after 6 tries with my air fryer

I messed around with soaking times and temps all last month and last night at 9 PM I hit that crispy outside fluffy inside sweet spot with russet potatoes and a splash of olive oil, anyone else struggle to get them just right or am I overthinking this?

My neighbor Frank changed my mind about deck staining

Frank and I were both out sanding our decks last Saturday and he told me he switched to a solid stain after his semi-transparent peeled after just 2 seasons. He said it saved him a whole weekend of work every other year because he just power washes and does a light coat now. That hit different for me because I've been redoing mine every 18 months with the see-through stuff and it's exhausting. Has anyone else made the switch to solid stain and found it holds up better?

Spent a whole Saturday trying to fix a crooked cabinet door hinge

I had this one cabinet door that just would not close right no matter what I did. Turns out the hinge screw holes were stripped and I wasted like 3 hours trying different adjustments before I figured it out. Used some wooden toothpicks and wood glue to fill the holes at my shop over on Elm Street and now it closes perfect. Anybody else run into this with particle board cabinets?

Picked iFixit over a generic fix kit for my busted laptop screen

I dropped my ThinkPad last Tuesday and cracked the display. Had to choose between a $25 generic kit on Amazon and a $45 iFixit kit with the proper screwdrivers and suction cups. I went with iFixit because I've had cheap tools strip screws before lol. The guide was super clear and I got the whole swap done in about 90 minutes. Have you guys tried the generic kits or do you stick to brand name fix stuff?

Before we all got Kindles last year, people would dog-ear pages and argue about specific quotes for 20 minutes, now everyone just shrugs and says 'highlight 347' and the whole vibe dies. Has anyone else watched their group lose the physical book energy that made discussions messy and good?

I used that Breville Connoisseur for 2 years thinking it was top tier. Friend brought over a $25 Bodum and his coffee had way more flavor and body. Anyone else ditch their expensive gear for something simpler?

Can we talk about standing on the left side of the escalator?

I used to stand on whatever side felt crowded. Didn't think about it. Then last week at Grand Central Terminal, this guy tapped my shoulder and said "left side is for walking, ma'am." I felt like an idiot. All these years I've been blocking people in a rush. Now I stick to the right like everyone else. Do people actually learn this rule or is it one of those things you just pick up after enough dirty looks?
