Spent a whole Saturday trying to fix a crooked cabinet door hinge

I had this one cabinet door that just would not close right no matter what I did. Turns out the hinge screw holes were stripped and I wasted like 3 hours trying different adjustments before I figured it out. Used some wooden toothpicks and wood glue to fill the holes at my shop over on Elm Street and now it closes perfect. Anybody else run into this with particle board cabinets?

Picked iFixit over a generic fix kit for my busted laptop screen

I dropped my ThinkPad last Tuesday and cracked the display. Had to choose between a $25 generic kit on Amazon and a $45 iFixit kit with the proper screwdrivers and suction cups. I went with iFixit because I've had cheap tools strip screws before lol. The guide was super clear and I got the whole swap done in about 90 minutes. Have you guys tried the generic kits or do you stick to brand name fix stuff?

The switch from paperback to e-reader killed my book club's actual debates

Before we all got Kindles last year, people would dog-ear pages and argue about specific quotes for 20 minutes, now everyone just shrugs and says 'highlight 347' and the whole vibe dies. Has anyone else watched their group lose the physical book energy that made discussions messy and good?

I used that Breville Connoisseur for 2 years thinking it was top tier. Friend brought over a $25 Bodum and his coffee had way more flavor and body. Anyone else ditch their expensive gear for something simpler?

Can we talk about standing on the left side of the escalator?

I used to stand on whatever side felt crowded. Didn't think about it. Then last week at Grand Central Terminal, this guy tapped my shoulder and said "left side is for walking, ma'am." I felt like an idiot. All these years I've been blocking people in a rush. Now I stick to the right like everyone else. Do people actually learn this rule or is it one of those things you just pick up after enough dirty looks?

A customer yelled at me for 'scratching' their lens... turns out they never cleaned off a smudge first

Some guy brought in a Canon 50mm f/1.4 claiming I scratched it during a cleaning, but when I checked under a bright light it was just a dried fingerprint. After that I started showing customers the gunk on their own lenses through my loupe before touching anything. Anyone else deal with folks blaming you for their own dirt?

Found out the hard way that most filler brands have a 2mm max build limit, not the 4mm I was using

Was reading the fine print on a fresh can of Rage Gold after a repair on a '94 F-150 started cracking in the sun, and sure enough, the spec sheet says 2mm is the safe zone - wish I'd known that before I laid it on thick on a quarter panel last spring, anyone else ever get burned by ignored manufacturer specs?

Honestly, I was stuck on painting skin tones for months until I tried something dumb

Ngl, I kept trying to mix perfect colors from scratch and my portraits looked flat. Last week, I just grabbed a photo of a real face and used the color picker tool on a shadow area to get the base. I painted over it with my own brush, but that first stolen color gave me a real starting point. Has anyone else found a simple trick that broke a big art block for them?

Showerthought: my bathroom fan repair turned into a battle with a squirrel

Honestly, I had a choice last Tuesday: either take apart the whole bathroom ceiling vent to see why the fan was humming, or just ignore it and hope it fixed itself. I picked the first one, and ngl, it was a wild ride. After I got the cover off, I found a huge stash of dog food kibble and a very angry, fluffy tail staring back at me from the duct. The squirrel had been using my attic like a pantry for weeks. I had to gently coax it out with a broom and a trail of peanuts to the window, all while my cat watched like it was the best show ever. Now I have to patch a hole in the soffit and figure out how to animal-proof the vent cap. Has anyone else had a 'fix it' project turn into wildlife control? What did you use to seal things up for good?

I tried writing a story from a random word generator versus a full prompt

Last month, I used a website that gave me three random words (like 'moon', 'key', 'rust') and tried to build a story around them, but it felt forced and I gave up after two pages. Then I tried a prompt from a book that gave a character, a setting, and a problem (a librarian who finds a secret door in the stacks), and I wrote 5,000 words in a weekend. What kind of prompt structure works best for you guys to actually get writing?
