Appreciation post: the old guy at my bench taught me to test shutter speeds by ear
Back when I was 19 and fixing cameras in a shop off Division Street in Portland, this old timer named Walt made me sit and listen to a beat up Pentax for 20 minutes before I was allowed to touch a tester. He said the 1/60 click should sound like a single snip of scissors, and I still catch myself listening before I even clamp one into the analyzer. Any of you still learn timing by ear before you trust the scope?
Read somewhere that old clockmakers did the same thing, just listened to the tick before ever cracking one open. Ears catch stuff a scope won't, like a lazy spring or a sticky blade.
