PSA: bought a $210 Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun after 3 months of fighting a Canon AE-1
I was burning up pads and pulling traces on old circuit boards with a cheap $20 pump, and after wrecking two flex cables in the same week I finally caved and got the Hakko. It has paid for itself ten times over on that AE-1 repair plus a few Nikon F bodies since, but I still wonder if I just needed better technique instead of better tools. Any of you ever buy your way out of a repair problem and feel weirdly guilty about it, or is it just me?
