A ranger at Shenandoah told me to ditch my 2 pound camp stove and carry a $12 canister setup instead
Laughed it off, then my Whisperlite clogged at mile 6 in the rain last October. Anyone else had a ranger's throwaway tip save a trip?

That ranger probably saved you 40 bucks in ibuprofen alone. My Jetboil died on the AT in Virginia two years back and I spent an hour rebuilding it on a wet log while my ramen got cold. Now I carry a $15 pocket rocket as backup and it weighs less than my water bottle. Funny how the free advice is always the stuff you end up needing.
