Changed my mind on cheap camp pillows after a rainy night in Boone

I always swore my $12 inflatable pillow was fine, but after 3 hours of shivering in 48 degree rain at Julian Price Park, my neck was done. My buddy handed me his puffy down pillow and I woke up actually rested, so now I'm eyeing a $45 one that packs to grapefruit size. Anyone else cave on gear they mocked, or did you find a better budget option that works?
