Showerthought: My hacked camp stove boils water way faster now
I got mad at my old stove for being so slow to boil water for coffee. So I made a wind shield from cheap foil I had in my pack. Now it boils way quicker, like in just a few minutes. Those store-bought wind blocks are a waste of cash compared to my fix. It shows how simple ideas can beat fancy gear any day. I save money and get better results with my DIY hack. Oh, foil wind shields are clutch (I've used cut-up soda cans too, for a more rigid block). Another thing that sped up my boils was pre-heating the pot with a bit of hot water from my bottle. Just pour it in, swirl, dump, then add cold water to boil. Cuts down time noticeably, especially on chilly mornings. I also wrap my fuel canister in hand warmers when it's cold out, keeps the pressure up. Simple tweaks like that make a huge difference without spending extra cash.
