I used to write cover letters for 90 minutes, now I do it in 12 and get more calls
Back in 2019 I was cranking out 4 page cover letters for every job in Chicago, and I got maybe 2 callbacks out of 60 sends. My cousin who works in HR at a bank over in Naperville glanced at one and said "nobody reads past line 3, just put the numbers up top." Now I slap 3 bullet points with real results in the first paragraph, and my callback rate is around 1 in 5, so what's the one thing you cut from your applications that actually helped?
