That 'follow your passion' advice set me back 3 years
My old boss at the firm kept telling me to chase what I loved, so I left a stable accounting job in Austin at 28 to try freelance photography. Three years later I was broke, living off credit cards, and had zero savings to show for it. I went back to accounting last spring, and guess what? I actually enjoy the routine and the steady paycheck way more than I ever liked hustling for gigs. People act like passion is everything, but for me it was just stress with a filter on it. Has anyone else found that boring, practical work actually made them happier in the long run?

Passion just makes the work feel harder when money stress hits.
