The resume advice that cost me 4 interviews at a hospital in Columbus
I need to warn people about the "skills section" advice that floats around here. Tbh I followed a popular tip telling me to list every software I'd ever touched, and I crammed 23 tools onto my resume when I applied to a scheduling job at a hospital in Columbus back in March. I got 4 interviews and then got passed over each time, and one recruiter finally told me point blank that my skills list looked like I was padding it. She said they wanted to see the 5 things I was actually good at, not a wall of tiny logos and buzzwords. Ngl, that stung because I thought more was better. I trimmed my resume down to 6 tools I really know, and I got an offer 3 weeks later. So if you're copying that long skills list from a template, please look at it again. What number of skills do you folks actually put on yours before it starts to look like filler?
