A cashier at a bookstore told me my degree was useless

I was buying a philosophy textbook at Powell's in Portland two years ago, and the cashier said 'you know that won't get you a job, right?' in a totally flat tone. It stuck with me because she was right, but I still finished the degree anyway. Anyone else get a random comment that messed with your career path?

Eh, one random cashier's opinion is not really that big a deal.

Wait, are you seriously brushing off what the cashier said like it's nothing? That lady probably sees hundreds of people a day and notices stuff we don't. She might have a point if she's been watching people's behavior for years.
