My retired uncle in Spokane asked why I got a degree just to do what he does without one
Sat down with my uncle over coffee in Spokane two weeks ago and he asked me point blank why I spent $38k on a business degree to run spreadsheets, since he ran a whole warehouse for 30 years with a clipboard and a head for numbers. I laughed it off at first, but on the drive home I couldn't shake it. He didn't mean it as a dig, he honestly wanted to know what the piece of paper got me that he never had. I've been chewing on it ever since, because honestly some days I'm not sure the answer is anything more than a door that opens a little easier. How do you all square the cost of school with skills you could've picked up on the job?
