Paid $180 for the ASVAB prep course at the community college in Fort Wayne and it got me a $6k bump
Six months back I signed up for an in person ASVAB prep class at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne. It ran $180 for eight sessions, two nights a week, and I almost skipped it because the free practice test online had me scoring fine. My recruiter kept pushing the line scores angle though, so I went. My arithmetic reasoning was the weak spot, and the teacher was a retired Army guy who drilled us on word problems until I could do them half asleep. I ended up pulling a 112 on the GT score, which opened up the job I actually wanted instead of the one I would have settled for. Then the real win hit: the signing bonus for that job came out about $6,000 over what I would have got in the other slot. So that $180 turned into a pretty solid return, even if it felt like lunch money at the time. If you are prepping, do the in person class and not just the app, the accountability is the part that works. Has anybody here done the officer route instead, and did a prep course ever actually make a difference for you?
Oh man my buddy did the same exact thing at a community college near Indy and swore the in person thing was what saved him. He was gonna just grind an app but the teacher calling him out in class kept him honest lol. Dude bumped his line scores enough for the job he wanted too, wild how 200 bucks changes everything.
