Picked a trade certification over a 4 year degree last spring in Phoenix and honestly it paid off faster than my friends who went to ASU.
Everyone kept telling me I was making a mistake skipping college, but I finished my HVAC cert in 9 months for $4,000 and landed a job three weeks later making $22 an hour. My buddy who went to university is still stuck with $30k in debt and hunting for internships. Has anyone else here gone the certification route and felt like they came out ahead?

80 thousand people told me I was wasting my time fixing up that old Ford, and I still hear their voices in my head sometimes. But looking back, pushing through that doubt was the only way I actually learned what mattered to me. @charlie_allen your story reminded me that other people's fear ain't the same thing as real wisdom.
