The career fair booth that literally collapsed on me in 2019
I was a junior in college, nervous as hell, first real career fair at the convention center downtown. I walk up to this engineering firm's booth, extend my hand, and the whole pop-up display behind the recruiter just folds forward like a cheap lawn chair. It smacked me in the shoulder, knocked over their bowl of mints, and the recruiter just stared at me while two other students had to help lift it off my back. I was mortified, but she laughed and said "well, that's one way to make an impression." She actually gave me her card and I got an internship out of it that summer. Ever since that day, I never rely on first impressions going smooth, I just show up and let stuff happen. Has anyone else had a disaster at a networking event that somehow worked in their favor?
