Vent: found out in my 40s that I was reading my pay stub wrong at every job
I was comparing two job offers last week and it took a coworker saying "wait, you know that column is year to date, right?" to make me realize I'd been reading the wrong line on every pay stub since my first job at 19. I thought I was making a lot less than I was, which means I turned down a raise at a framing gig in Fresno back in 2011 because I thought the new number looked the same. How long did it take you all to actually understand what your stub is telling you?
