A guy at my cousin's grad party told me to stop leading with 'I'm a people person' and he was right
Back when I was trying to get out of the shop and into a service writer job, my cousin's buddy who hires for a dealership in Reno looked at my resume and said flat out, 'Lead with the numbers or I toss it in 10 seconds.' I figured he was just being harsh, but I rewrote my top line to say I handled 40 cars a day and tracked $12k in parts weekly, and I got three callbacks that same week. My old version just said I was reliable and good with customers, which told him nothing. So now I'm curious, what line on your resume actually got a real response, and what did you cut to make room for it?

My uncle ran a body shop in Fresno for 20 years and he tossed any resume that listed hobbies at the bottom. He said a guy's softball league told him nothing about how he'd handle a pissed off customer.
