Can we talk about how fast a dull blade chews through a brand new belt
I was reading the manual that came with my last table saw (yeah, I actually read it) and there was a line about how a dull blade can pull up to 3 times the amps of a sharp one. Three times. I always figured a dull blade just cut slower, not that it was working the motor way harder. I tested it on the old job site saw last week with a clamp meter and my dull combo blade was pulling around 11 amps in oak while a fresh 40 tooth dropped it to about 4. That extra draw is heat, and heat is what cooked the belt on my saw about 6 months back. Cost me $38 for the belt plus a whole afternoon tearing the thing apart in my shop in Peoria. Now I swap blades way sooner than I used to and the motor runs cooler. Any of you run a clamp meter on your tools to check this stuff, or am I overthinking it?
