Warning: Don't fall for the 'fresh pasta' hype at that new Italian spot downtown

Checked out Bella's Cucina on Main Street last Friday cause they advertise handmade pasta for $12 a plate. Got the fettuccine and it tasted exactly like the $1.50 box from the grocery store. Pretty sure they're just lying about making it fresh. Anyone else notice places charging double for something that's clearly same as store brand?

and don't even get me started on the "hand rolled" gnocchi they charge $14 for. I went with a friend who's Italian (like, actually from Italy) and he took one bite and said it's probably frozen from Costco. The texture was all wrong - you know, kind of gummy and dense instead of light and fluffy. I feel like restaurants are getting away with this because people don't know what fresh pasta should actually taste like. It's one thing to charge more if you're actually making it from scratch (I'd happily pay for that) but it's straight up dishonest to call boxed pasta "fresh" and add $8 to the price.

Man, that "gummy and dense" description hit me hard cause I used to think I just didn't like fresh pasta but now I realize I was probably eating the same frozen stuff you're talking about. This honestly changed my mind about what to look for.
