Pro tip: test the outlets before you fall in love with a 1920s bungalow
I looked at a 1922 bungalow in Petersburg, Virginia listed at $38,000 and spent two hours poking around the attic and basement before I thought to bring a phone charger. Turned out only three outlets in the whole house actually worked, and the rest were dead knob and tube. Cost me a weekend of trips back and forth before I got a real electrician out there. Has anyone else made outlet testing part of the first walkthrough?
Man, this is the same trap as buying a used car because it sounds nice on the test drive. We fall for the pretty stuff first, the porch swing and the original wood floors, and forget the boring stuff that actually keeps the thing running. Outlets, wiring, plumbing, roof, those are the things that decide if you got a deal or a money pit.
