I picked the backyard over the bar for my 40th, and I'd do it again at 50
For my 40th last June I had to choose between renting out the back room at a bar in Ohio City for $700 or just grilling in my yard off West 117th for maybe $150 in food. The bar party felt like what you're supposed to do, but my wife and I went with the backyard and 30 neighbors and friends showed up with sides and lawn chairs and it was way more fun than any bar night I've had. Am I the only one who thinks the west side backyard party beats a rented venue, or is that just me getting old?
