Kitchen faucet sprayer blew off mid-dinner, water everywhere, plumber quote was wild

Last Tuesday around 6pm I'm draining pasta and the sprayer head just pops clean off the hose. Water shooting straight up hitting the ceiling fan. Took me a solid 2 minutes to find the shutoff valve under the sink because of course it was buried behind old paint cans. Got it stopped but my cabinets took a soaking. Called a plumber Thursday, he quoted me $480 to replace the whole faucet setup. I looked up the part myself, it's a $35 repair kit. Has anyone else dealt with this on the older Moen models, or am I crazy for trying to fix it myself this weekend? I've already got the Allen wrench out but I'm worried about the supply lines cracking after 11 years.

That pasta flood probably saved you from worse if the hose blew at the wall.
