Paid $200 for a 'premium' garage parking spot near W. 25th and it was a disaster

I decided to rent a reserved spot in a new lot off Detroit Ave for $200 a month. Figured it would save me from hunting for street parking after work. Turns out the gate broke down three times in the first month and they took forever to fix it. I ended up parking on the street anyway while still paying for the spot. Learned my lesson about trusting flashy new lots around here. Anyone else get burned by one of these overpriced garage deals?

Angela43 makes a good point about the cameras and lighting. I parked in a mom and pop lot near Gordon Square last winter and someone smashed my window to grab an empty gym bag. No cameras, no security, just a handwritten sign saying "not responsible." Called the owner and he basically shrugged at me. The new places arent perfect but at least they usually have some kind of system to handle issues at weird hours, even if it takes them a day or two to get a tech out there.

Stick with the mom and pop lots around here, way less headaches in my experience. I paid for a monthly spot on Lorain once and had the same gate nonsense, ended up talking to the owner directly to get a partial refund. Your mileage may vary but the new places always seem to cheap out on maintenance.

Oh come on @tyler492, you gotta give the new places SOME credit. Those old mom and pop lots are a straight UP nightmare if anything goes wrong at 2 AM. I've been burned by both and honestly the newer lots usually have backup systems or at least a number you can call that actually picks up. The cheap owner-operated ones will leave you stranded for hours with a broken gate and zero apology. Plus the new ones often have cameras and better lighting, which matters when you're parking a car you actually care about. Sure their maintenance can slip but at least they have someone on payroll to fix it, not just Bob from next door. Maybe you got unlucky but I've had way more consistent service at the bigger operations here.
