A neighbor's flooded basement in Omaha got me to finally sign up for the city's rain barrel rebate
I always figured rain barrels were a drop in the bucket, pun intended, so I never bothered. That changed last month when my neighbor's basement in Omaha took on about 4 inches of water after one storm and the sump pump died on him at 2 a.m. The plumber told him a couple of rain barrels on his downspouts might have kept some of that runoff off his foundation. I went home and filled out the city's rebate form that night, and I'm picking up two 55 gallon barrels next Tuesday. Has anyone here actually set these up, and did you bother with a diverter or just let it dump straight in?
