A cheap spring from the hardware store cut my tool change time from 40 seconds to 12
I run a Haas VF3 at a small shop in Modesto and our tool changes were eating up way too much time. The problem was my air blast wasn't clearing chips off the taper before the next tool went in, so I was pulling the holder out and wiping it by hand every single cycle. I zip tied a 95 cent spring from Ace Hardware to the spindle housing so it holds a little 1/4 inch copper tube pointed right at the taper. Now the blast hits the taper for about 2 seconds before the tool seats and I haven't had a single pullout since. Anybody else rig up something simple like this to fix a clearance problem?
