Can we talk about picking Python over JavaScript for my first language?

I sat on the fence for about two weeks trying to pick my first language, and a guy named Marcus in a Discord group for new coders told me to just go with Python. I picked Python and got through a 12 hour beginner course in about 3 weeks, mostly because the print statements and spacing rules didn't fight me at the start. My buddy went with JavaScript at the same time and got stuck early on callbacks, which sounds like a headache. For people who started with one or the other, which one actually kept you going past month two?
