Watched a kid at the Chicago library struggle with Scratch for 45 minutes because nobody taught him loops
He kept dragging the same block over and over instead of using a repeat, and his mom just kept saying 'try again.' How do you explain loops to a total beginner without losing them in the first 5 minutes?

Teach the idea before the blocks, since "try again" never showed him what repeating even means.
