I voted yes on every school bond for 10 years, now I vote no and I want to explain why
I used to be the guy who voted yes on every school bond and levy without reading past the first page. Anything with kids and classrooms on it got my vote, no questions. That changed about 4 years ago when our district here in Spokane asked for $180 million and I actually sat down with the paperwork. Turns out a big chunk of it was for a new admin building and a turf field, and the actual classroom stuff was a smaller slice than I expected. I went to two board meetings after that and asked where the money from the 2016 bond went, and nobody could give me a straight answer. I still want schools funded, I just think the money should show up in the classrooms first. Now I read the whole bond and I vote no on the parts I can't trace. If you've ever dug into your own district's bond spending, what did you find?
