Showerthought: I thought ranked choice voting was a gimmick until I saw a Maine ballot in 2022
Back in 2016 I laughed at the idea and figured it was just a fad pushed by people who could not win a normal race. In 2022 a coworker in Portland showed me his actual ballot and talked me through how his second pick mattered in a governor race with 3 strong names. It cost the state less than a dollar per voter to run according to the report he pulled up. Now I am the guy bringing it up at dinner. If you have voted under it somewhere, did your second choice ever actually count for anything?
