The Tuesday everything in my apartment building broke at once
I'm posting this as a warning to renters: check your building's maintenance records before you sign. We had zero issues for 11 months, then one Tuesday made up for all of it. The elevator jammed with two people inside for 2 hours, the sole dryer in the laundry room started smoking, and a pipe in the unit above mine burst, dripping brown water through my ceiling by 6pm. I lost a $120 area rug, my dinner plans, and any trust in the property manager's word that everything was 'up to code.' The repair guy on Thursday said he'd seen three different failure types in one building before, but never on the same day. So my question is: does that sound like a random spike, or should I be looking for a new place before next month's lease renewal?
